Kochanova held meeting with Council of Elders
The Chairperson of the Council of the Republic, Natalya Kochanova, and members of the Presidium of the Council of the Republic have met today with the Council of Elders
Opening the event, Ms. Kochanova stressed that meetings of the kind had become traditional to summarise the results of the year. “We can say that 2024 was special for the Council of the Republic: we held elections on Single Voting Day for the first time, and that experience proved its effectiveness,” she said. “A new membership of the Council of the Republic has begun its work, and these are worthy people who have good professional experience and demonstrate a reverent attitude towards the country. They are real patriots. We [those who remained in the Council of the Republic for a second term] are rightfully proud that together, including with government agencies, we are solving very important and necessary tasks set by the President and determined by the Belarusian People’s Congress.”
Ms. Kochanova stressed that, over the past thirty years, the republic has passed through many stages of formation and development. “Nothing emerged from a scratch for us, everything is the result of the hardest work of all generations who have been creating the good traditions of Belarus and, most importantly, multiplying its economic power and strengthened its political role in the international arena. Our opinion is regarded, and our President is respected. Despite the sanctions pressure, we are not isolated in any way today. Our senators often travel abroad in order to spread the truth about Belarus.”
The Head of the Upper House of Parliament added that the Council of the Republic members have taken part in the Summit of the Future in New York, the IPU Assembly session in Geneva, the election observations in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan this year, also paying an official visit to China.
