Lukashenko signed decree declaring 2024 Year of Quality

Head of State Aleksandr Lukashenko signed decree No. 375 On Declaring 2024 Year of Quality, the Belarusian leader’s press service reports

The decision was made in order to further improve the quality of Belarusians’ life, ensure the competitiveness of the national economy on the world stage, stimulate initiative, form responsibility in society for the results of people’s work and a sense of belonging to the future of the country.

Within the framework of Year of Quality, an emphasis will be placed on improving the competitiveness of Belarus through a careful and thoughtful attitude to resources, the implementation of high-tech and energy-intensive projects, the priority of qualitative indicators over quantitative ones. Efforts will be focused on ensuring quality indicators by stimulating initiatives, introducing innovative ideas, strengthening social optimism in society, and striving to create for the common good. Priority attention is planned to be paid to the formation of personal responsibility among citizens for achieving a high quality of life (sufficient income, timely medical examination, healthy nutrition, good education, and cultural leisure).

The proposal to declare 2024 Year of Quality was made by the President in September during his working trip to the Mogilev Region. When visiting the agro-town of Vishov in the Belynichi District, the Head of State focused on the repair of the road network, among other issues. As the Minister of Housing and Communal Services, Gennady Trubilo, reported to the President, plans are not just met in the country, but they exceed the set targets in this direction.

"It is good that you have exceeded [the set task], but you should not forget that you will bear responsibility for the quality. There should be no bad quality, because it's very expensive. It is not for us. Therefore, square metres are good, but the quality is the key. We should declare 2024 Year of Quality. Everything is fine with us: we produce large volumes, and Belarusian products enjoy great demand (we even have no time to satisfy Russian needs), but we still have quality-related problems. Therefore, quality should be in focus, and those responsible should be held accountable,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

The topic was continued during the President’s visit to the Kristall Production Association, where one of the employees proposed to establish a single state quality mark in Belarus. The Head of State approved that idea.

"We will declare 2024 Year of Quality, and I have already talked about this. We produce much, and our products are of good quality. However, we need to do better in order to compete, because we have an open economy. We need to improve the quality to be able to compete,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. The Head of State proposed to take the Soviet quality mark, which he likes outwardly, as a basis for the modern Belarusian one. He then gave the corresponding instruction to the Government.
