Lukashenko outlined tasks that CIS interior ministries need to focus on: rule of law, peace and stability

At today’s meeting with the participants of the CIS Interior Ministers Council, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko outlined four important tasks that interior ministries of the Commonwealth face at present

As noted by the Head of State, the first task is to ensure the rule of law, peace and stability. “We see perfectly well how attempts are being made to cause a quarrel between our countries and to split them from the inside. We are under the pressure of absolutely illegal unilateral economic sanctions, and a permanent hybrid war is being waged against our peoples. Each of the CIS countries has experienced at least one colour revolution, which is essentially an attempt at a coup,” he addressed the meeting participants.

In the last few years alone, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan have experienced such attacks, and – as emphasised by Aleksandr Lukashenko – Belarus was no exception: in 2020, there was an attempt to stage a coup in the republic. The President added that those involved counted on the blitzkrieg, like fascists, and acted according to well-known guidelines. “We did not allow the collapse of the country and the outbreak of a civil war then,” he stressed.

The second most important task for the CIS states and their interior ministries is to counter internal and external terrorism. As stated by the Belarusian leader, international terrorist groups are actively using the latest technologies and media resources to promote their activities and attract new followers. “An effective fight against this evil requires an integrated approach, including political, social and economic measures, the development of international co-operation and the exchange of information. We can resist this only if we unite our efforts,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

The Head of State also voiced the third task: the fight against cybercrimes. “After the start of the special military operation, we have recorded an intensification of the activities of fraudsters, including call centres operating on the territory of Ukraine. The number of attempts to destabilise the work of government agencies by deliberately false reports of mining of important state facilities has increased. There is also fraud against ordinary citizens. Such a problem exists on the territory of your states as well, so the experience of fighting such an evil will be interesting to all of us,” the Belarusian leader stated.

The fourth task is related to the theme of celebrating the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

“Victory Day is the most memorable and solemn date in our common history. It symbolises the unity and courage of the Soviet peoples in the face of the most terrible threat to all mankind: fascism. We have no discord in this issue. The CIS Interior Ministers Council statement (adopted at the end of the forum) will not only be a tribute to the memory of tens of millions of servicemen and peaceful Soviet citizens who died in order for us to live normally today. This will be an appeal to future generations to cherish the historical memory and, most importantly, the truth about the terrible war, and to never forget that we are the descendants of the winners. This is our great asset," Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
