Lukashenko shared his most vivid impressions of football
During his today’s visit to the Traktor Stadium and communication with youth activists who had participated in the reconstruction of the arena as part of student teams, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko shared his most vivid impressions of football
“When I was at school, we had a football field in our village,” the Head of State said. “We had 30 houses in the village and two teams — there were so many young people and children then! Later I played for our collective farm and for other teams, we played a lot in our student days, but I mostly remember how we played in childhood. That was a village mettle. At those times, I was engaged into running, doing sports. I wanted to be a football player but later I injured my knee – and that had its consequences. As a result, I switched to hockey. In my childhood years, the Dnieper River was nearby, we cleaned the surface and played hockey in winter.”
The President also told the young people that, as a boy, he was not tall, and older guys often asked him to play as goalkeeper. However, he suddenly grew up to 190 centimetres during the summer, and so he became a striker.
“I always say that I am a professional football player,” Aleksandr Lukashenko smiled. “I think it is the most popular and interesting sport, and the same is true about hockey.”
The President called cycling and swimming the best sports for health, although he admitted that he does not like swimming. “It is too tedious,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “Meanwhile, biking brings pleasure. Moreover, it is good for the heart.”
