Lukashenko sees great potential for developing co-operation with Stavropol Region, including in science and culture
During his today’s meeting with the Governor of the Stavropol Region of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Vladimirov, President Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out a number of promising areas for the development of co-operation, emphasising, in particular, the spheres of tourism and related infrastructure
“Everyone is aware of your famous resorts with mineral water: Pyatigorsk, Kislovodsk, Yessentuki. They enjoy great demand, including among Belarusians. We also know and remember this from Soviet times, and we are also ready to contribute to the development of the industry. We have an opportunity to supply prefabricated wooden frame-panel structures, eco-friendly furniture for guest houses and for your hotels,” the Belarusian leader said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko also suggested thinking about how to increase the mutual tourist flow, activate direct contacts between sanatorium-type institutions, specialised management bodies and organisations. “In my opinion, it makes sense – if you deem it necessary – to restore a direct flight connecting Minsk and Mineralnye Vody with your support from May 2024. Vacationers and tourists will thank us for that,” he is convinced.
According to the Head of State, in addition to the economy, there are many other areas where the parties can and should co-operate closely: science, culture, education, and sports. There are great opportunities here.
The President noted the great attention that Vladimir Vladimirov personally pays to the issues of patriotic education of young people and preserving the memory of events related to the Great Patriotic War. “Largely thanks to the initiative of the Stavropol residents, a new day of military glory was added to the Russian calendar in 2020: Day of Nazi Troops’ Defeat by Soviet Troops in Battle for the Caucasus. On October 9th, you celebrated the 80th anniversary of that glorious event. This day is in many ways our holiday as well, since we fought together, and there were many Belarusians among those struggling for the Caucasus. You know, the memory of heroes is cherished in Belarus at present,” he noted.
The Head of State stressed that the list of co-operation topics that are currently in the field of attention is very extensive. “We are ready to liaise in all areas. If you find something interesting in Belarus, please tell me. We will always react as much as possible. Moreover, if we agree, we will sacredly observe our agreements,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
