Lukashenko: SCO is organisation for creation, which fully corresponds to spirit of Belarus’ politics

By its nature, the SCO is an organisation for creation and is not directed against anyone. This is something much-in-demand worldwide today and fully meets the spirit of Belarusian politics – as noted by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, in an exclusive interview with the Kazinform news agency.

Aleksandr Lukashenko is deeply convinced that true and indivisible global security in the 21st century must be built via a broad dialogue, without discrimination and on conditions acceptable to all. It’s impossible to demand security for oneself, ignoring the security of others.

“By its nature, the SCO is an organisation for creation and is not directed against anyone. This is something much-in-demand worldwide today and fully meets the spirit of our policy. The Minsk platform has repeatedly become a place for negotiations on a peaceful settlement. We consistently invite all countries and international organisations to dialogue,” the Belarusian leader said.

He recalled that last year Belarus put forward an initiative to develop the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century – designed to formulate the parameters and principles of the functioning of the security architecture in the Eurasian space.

“We see the need for more active participation of the ‘SCO family’ in addressing global food security issues, largely caused by unilateral coercive measures (sanctions),” the Head of State said.

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, one of the already obvious consequences of illegal sanctions is a serious aggravation of the global hunger problem.

The President of Belarus gave a good example, “Restrictions on the transit of Belarusian potash fertilisers – accounting for about 20 percent of global production – have provoked a serious increase in their prices. As a result, many countries were forced to abandon their use, dramatically worsening the quality and reducing the volume of crops. According to the UN, in 2023, one in five people in 59 countries faced acute food shortages, more than 280 million people around the world are hungry, and over 36 million children under 5 in 32 countries are severely malnourished. The share of hungry population has increased from 10 to 20 percent in just 7 years.”

“Therefore, Belarus, together with the SCO countries, is ready to consistently implement the anti-sanctions approaches laid down in the Samarkand Declaration and the decisions of the upcoming SCO summit,” the Belarusian leader summarised.
