According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, even if it were not about nuclear weapons, and even if Belarus had to defend itself or attack someone, the republic would also consult with Vladimir Putin. “It [Russia] is our ally. In the same way, the West consults with the United States, with Anglo-Saxons, as they are called," he stressed.

Answering the question of whether he is ready to give permission for the use of tactical nuclear weapons deployed in Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko said, “I am fully ready. Otherwise, why do we need this weapon if (I have already voiced this) at least one soldier would cross the border of Belarus. We are not going to attack anyone, and you should know this. [We are not going to attack] Ukraine as well, since Ukrainians are our people. Our people live there, and we are ready to co-operate with them, whatever it be. Sooner or later we will come to this. What kind of relationships did we have with Germans, with fascists? They were awful. They killed our children, threw them into wells, burned and hung them, and so on. You are well aware of this.”

The Head of State noted: despite that, Belarusians had been normally co-operating with Germans many years after. “Of course, we remember, we remind them if they start behaving ‘badly’. We remind them of what happened. However, we managed to heal those wounds with our co-operation: trade-economic, technological, and so on. It will happen even faster in case of Ukraine, I think. We will be together, and you will never help Ukraine after the war. You will not rebuild Ukraine. Those in the United States already say that Ukraine is rich, that it is ready to share its lands with others, to part with its minerals and high-tech raw materials that Americans and the whole of the world need. That's what they are talking about. We will find a common language with Ukrainians, we need to end this war now," Aleksandr Lukashenko added.

With this in view, as stressed by Belarus’ President, the nuclear weapons are not a horror story, but a powerful deterrent. “Before the nuclear weapons arrived to us, I warned and publicly said that we had to raise the issue of returning these weapons – which we had transferred to the Russian Federation under your pressure before I became President – to us from Russia. At that time, you – primarily Americans, Anglo-Saxons – guaranteed us peace, security and no sanctions. You have violated all agreements, so get a serious back,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.

The President continued, “I will not tell you how the weapons will be used, but I can say the following: they cannot be used without my permission. However, they will be used, if Belarus needs this.”

At the same time, the Belarusian leader stated that talking about nuclear weapons is a sad topic, “As Putin correctly said once: ‘You asked, so I answered'. The world should not be blackmailed with the use of nuclear weapons. We are not going to use them, if the situation is the same as it is now.”
