Lukashenko: roads of victories are Belarus’ path towards independence

The milestones of our historical development are the change of epochs of great power and great upheavals – as stated by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko during today’s solemn meeting dedicated to Independence Day

Addressing the audience at the Palace of the Republic – and in their person the entire Belarusian people – the Head of State noted, “Today we recall the most important pages of our history. Celebrating the anniversary of our country’s liberation from the Nazi invaders, we mentally walk along the roads of victories, starting with the liberated Komarin and finishing with the heroic Brest Region. This is our path: the path towards our independence.”

The President recalled that exactly eighty years ago, on July 3rd, after wild years of occupation, the red banner was raised over the capital of our Motherland again, “A banner that became a historical symbol of our freedom in an instant. By the will of the Belarusian people, the image of this banner has been preserved in the National Flag of the Republic of Belarus. By the will of the Belarusian people, July 3rd became a state holiday: Independence Day. Both the holiday and the symbols of our country are a tribute to the memory of the victorious Soviet people, a tribute to the Belarusians who bore all the hardships of the terrible war years on their shoulders.”

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, today we look at those events from the height of a thousand years of historical experience.

“We are looking into the depths of the centuries. This is the challenge of our time: the time of aggravation of geopolitical risks and threats. Nothing fundamentally new is happening in our lives. Not today, not then, back in 1941, when the Western European hordes moved on us. Tornadoes of the crusades and bloody floods swept through the Belarusian land before, destroying people’s lives. Meanwhile, the land was reborn, our people became stronger,” the Belarusian leader added.

“This was how the sacred knot of East Slavic unity was tied: unity that was tested by wars, internecine strife, and endless intrigues of successive political centres of power. The milestones of our historical development are the change of epochs of great power and great upheavals. This is the historical path on which the Belarusian people matured, hardened and formed their national identity,” the Head of State stressed.
