Lukashenko: pricing control to be greater intensified
Belarus will not step aside from practice of price control – as stated by President Aleksandr Lukashenko while being reported today on the work of the banking system and the measures taken to support foreign trade activities
As Pavel Kallaur, the Chairman of the Board of the National Bank, noted, the National Bank, the banking system in co-operation with the Government calmly and professionally ensure price and financial stability, solving problems of economic development in general, and there are no special issues requiring resolution at the Presidential level.
However, Aleksandr Lukashenko drew attention to a significant issue concerning the pricing system control in the country, “Not only is the National Bank responsible for inflation and price increases, but the Government also bears a certain burden. Following my instructions, the Government has taken certain measures to take control of the pricing system. This does not mean that we will hold down or slash prices without a reasonable basis. No. We want to develop a clear pricing control system. Even among those present here someone might disagree, but I have made the decision – and it must be executed.”
According to the President, the country manages to control the pricing system and to some extent restrain prices at present. “We will not step aside from this practice. The control system over prices and this whole complex will be enhanced, and this task has been set for the Government. I would ask the National Bank to never forget this and to do everything necessary so that people do not feel aggrieved due to rising prices and inflation in the country,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
