Lukashenko: potential of Belarusian and Tajik economies is much higher than the level of trade

The potential of the economies of Belarus and Tajikistan is much higher than the level of mutual trade – as noted by the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, after his official talks with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, BelTA reports

“Our delegations had productive and substantive negotiations. Together with my colleague, a good friend, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Sharipovich, we have also joined these talks. I would like to sincerely thank him for the traditionally warm meeting on Tajik land. I really appreciate the trusting and friendly relations that have been tested by time and confirmed in practice,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

According to the President, during the talks, the parties constructively and frankly tackled all issues on the bilateral agenda, paying special attention to trade-economic liaisons.

“Much has been done over the past years, but the potential of the economies of our states is much higher than the achieved level of mutual trade. To efficiently use the available reserves, we intend to intensify contacts between our enterprises, including through such platforms as exhibitions of domestic manufacturers and Belarusian-Tajik business forum. It is important that at present the interaction of enterprises goes beyond the classical foreign trade transactions. In addition, as Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said, $50m of agreements and contracts were reached in one day alone [at a business forum], but this is only the beginning, as is confirmed by the signed commercial agreements and contracts,” the Head of State said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko recalled that the successful implementation of a joint project for the production of Belarusian agricultural machinery in Hissar was the first step towards the industrialisation and development of the Tajik industry using Belarusian developments. The Belarusian side also sees great prospects associated with the development of the assembly production of its elevators, which is successfully functioning in Tajikistan.

Before the end of the year, Belarus and Tajikistan plan to launch a joint milk processing venture in Dushanbe. “Our enterprises are currently providing the necessary technological support to Tajik partners,” the President stressed.

“We annually expand the legal base of bilateral relations. Within the framework of this meeting, a number of international agreements were signed, including intergovernmental agreements in the field of promoting mutual trade, youth policy, as well as several dozen international and interuniversity agreements,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
