Lukashenko on whether he is following the presidential elections in the US and which of the candidates he prefers

In an interview with VGTRK (All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company) journalist Olga Skabeeva, Belarus’ Head of State Aleksandr Lukashenko criticised the election campaign in the United States and the behaviour of candidates seeking the post of American President

The journalist asked Aleksandr Lukashenko whether he was following the US presidential race campaign, and who he was rooting for.

“They are all fools, believe me. I often say that if it were here or in Russia, neither of these fools would have been elected. It’s awful. Actually, normal men never fight against women," the Belarusian leader noted.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that if presidential candidates in Belarus or Russia had made the statements like the ones proclaimed in the United States today, then they would have alienated a huge number of people.

The President added that he does not like the thesis of Donald Trump who claims that he will stop the Ukrainian conflict if he wins the race. Aleksandr Lukashenko said he had no idea how Trump would be able to do that, “Will he come, stamp his foot and say ‘let's finish it’?”

The Head of State noted, “The presidential race is terrible, and I do not understand anything from the point of view of our criteria. These are terrible, stupid elections. I can tell you openly why I am a supporter of the Trump campaign. I know what will happen if Harris comes to power. I guess that, if Trump comes, there will be no particularly good, but still there will be some hope. There will be a new person, and there may be something new. He has at least voiced much, so it will be possible to hold him accountable. I am guided by these points only, and not because I like Trump or his programme. It is such a stupidity [to say] that there is no information where $1bn was spent on by one headquarter or another. Where are people looking at? They could have stopped and made suggestions. However, it is hardly possible to restrain it,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
