Lukashenko on Belarus’ task in fruit growing: it’s necessary to stop being captured by imported apples

Belarus must provide itself with fruits of its own production, primarily apples – as stated by President Aleksandr Lukashenko today while visiting a farm specialising in fruit growing near Molodechno, BelTA reports

“We need to stop to be captured by imported apples. We should grow our own apples, we are to be provided with them. We have a great need for apples, but we need storage facilities for this. We should have everything domestically,” the President said.

The President instructed the Minister of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade, Aleksei Bogdanov, “We should help, and we should know exactly how much we need for the country, how much the market can consume." The task is not only to meet the needs of the country, but also to ensure exports.

Aleksandr Lukashenko declared his readiness to actively support the development of fruit growing in the country, including allocating additional fields to this farm – ‘at least, 1,000 hectares’.

"Sanctions are a time of opportunity," the Belarusian leader reminded.
