Lukashenko negotiated with President of Serbia on side-lines of COP29 in Baku

The Head of State noted that Belarus and Serbia have been maintaining ‘diplomatic relations’ for 30 years, and a lot has been done over that time. Serious changes have taken place in Serbia as well. “It is all happening in front of our eyes. Nevertheless, life continues. I think we need to intensify our relations. It is bad that we lack an intense relationship against all our difficulties. They certainly exist,” he said.
The Belarusian leader suggested that the members of the Belarusian-Serbian intergovernmental commission should conduct an audit and determine in which areas further co-operation could be developed, “If something is not needed in our relationship, then we should get rid of it and outline new ways. Actually, the relationship should not just be maintained: it needs to be intensified, despite any difficulties.”
After the work of the intergovernmental commission, the parties could exchange visits at the government level in order to specify a plan for further action, which would subsequently be approved by the heads of state.
“There are many areas of co-operation. I understand Serbia. I have voiced more than once that it is difficult for you (you are practically isolated), so you need to proceed from this and build your policy with this in view. At the same time, old friends should not be lost. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain relations with Russia and Belarus: they are true friends. I think the Serbs will do their best in this direction," Aleksandr Lukashenko stated.
