This year, July 5th marked the 55th anniversary of the opening of the Mound of Glory of the Soviet Army — Liberator of Belarus Memorial. The complex is located on the site of fierce fighting, where a 105,000-strong group of German troops (the ‘Minsk Cauldron’) was defeated in summer 1944. In honour of the feat of the soldiers who participated in Operation Bagration to liberate Belarus from the Nazi invaders, the Mound of Glory was erected. Today it is part of the Khatyn Memorial Complex and is included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Values of Belarus.

The reconstruction of the Mound of Glory was launched last year, with about Br9.7m earmarked for these purposes as part of the Minsk Region investment programme for 2024. In 2023 and H1 2024, the site underwent reconstruction of the central staircase, a flower-laying area, a fountain, and utility networks. Multimedia screens were installed, the exposition of military equipment was expanded and the existing one was updated.
