Lukashenko: if Wagner group is relocated to Belarus, contract will be signed with it
During a meeting with representatives of foreign and Belarusian media, the President of Belarus said that if a decision is made to relocate units of PMC Wagner to Belarus, a contract will be signed with it, and the necessary regulatory documents will be adopted. At the same time, the Head of State noted that Belarus would not become a springboard for an attack on neighbouring states, but in case of aggressive attacks against our country, we would respond. Wagner Group members, if they are in Belarus at this moment, will also take part in this.
Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed, “We have never attacked anyone, I have already stated this more than once, and we are not going to attack. No one will attack (I underline, attack) anyone from our territory. If aggression is committed against us, we will respond. If PMC Wagner is here at this moment, it – like the Belarusian army – will also protect our interests.”
At the same time, the President pointed out a fundamental point, “The main thing is that we didn’t sign a contract with them. When they decide to deploy here (all or some units) a contract will be signed with them, legally binding, where everything will be spelled out. Then, a law or presidential decree will determine the framework within which this unit will operate.”
