Lukashenko: if people fail to provide themselves with food, there is no talk about independence

If people cannot provide themselves with food, there is nothing to talk about sovereignty and independence, so Belarus pays great attention to development of agriculture – as stated by Aleksandr Lukashenko during his today’s meeting with the Perm Territory’s Governor, Dmitry Makhonin

Speaking about the Belarusian agro-industrial complex development, the Head of State recalled the times after the USSR collapse, when people were starving and there was nothing to eat.

"If people are not fed, if they cannot provide themselves with food, then there is nothing to talk about sovereignty, independence and existence in general," Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed. “With this in mind, we focused on some industries at that time and did a lot to provide our people with food and clothing. That gave roots to development of agriculture. This is the key reason: to give people food and clothing. Therefore, we have learned to do something, and we have achieved something. If you are interested, you are welcome. We are ready to implement for you everything you like: i.e. dairy complexes, feeding barns or poultry farms. I often give an example: if we once did something in Sakhalin at the request of Kozhemyako [the Governor of Russia's Primorye Territory who previously headed the Sakhalin Region], and in the Amur Region, then we are heaven-guided to work in the Perm Territory,” the Head of State said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko advised the Russian guest to pay attention to Belarusian agricultural machine building, “[We can offer] a full complex, and the necessary accompaniment. If your specialists need to be trained in this regard, so please send them here, let them come. We are ready to show not only our agricultural machinery, but also our selective breeding. We have preserved this, not having ruined.”

The President added that he had recently discussed the topic of agro-industrial complex development with the responsible government members. The steps needed to further develop this sphere were high on the agenda.
