Lukashenko expects Tokayev's visit to Belarus to significantly enhance turnover growth with Kazakhstan
President Aleksandr Lukashenko has met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Belarus, Yerlan Baizhanov, today
Welcoming the diplomat, the President of Belarus thanked him for his work, including during the election campaign in the country. “You have been closely following the situation in Belarus. I know that you are currently visiting different localities in our country, and I would like to know of your impressions. Maybe you can tell us something that we fail to notice. You know, it is always better to see things with a fresh eye. Therefore, we will be very grateful to you,” he said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko also stressed that this year – most likely in Q3 – President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev plans to make an official visit to Belarus, “It is also very important for us today to specify some points of this important event for Belarus. The negotiations will be held at the highest level, and interested parties will meet during this visit. I am convinced that a billion [of Dollars] that we have reached in our trade turnover will look simply ridiculous after this visit. This is because, taking into consideration the potential, the countries – the friendliest ones in our integration associations, Belarus and Kazakhstan – should have the most advanced relations. We have established good joint ventures for the production of combine harvesters, tractors, and elevators. It is planned to further promote our technologies and create joint facilities based on them in Kazakhstan and Belarus. We are ready to support you at any time... We are ready to expand our co-operation in terms of creating JVs.”
By the end of 2023, the trade turnover between Belarus and Kazakhstan amounted to $1.11bn (about 90 percent of the 2022 level). There are 55 enterprises with Kazakh capital registered in Belarus, and more than 170 entities of the Belarusian enterprises’ commodity distribution network operate in Kazakhstan. Co-operative projects are being implemented in the production of agricultural, automotive, emergency rescue equipment, as well as elevators.
