Lukashenko demands to speed up land reclamation process
During his today’s working trip to the Vetka District, President Aleksandr Lukashenko demanded to accelerate the pace of land reclamation, BelTA reports
"The process is progressing slowly, so we need to speed up. We have virtually snatched out this money [for land reclamation], but there might be no funds tomorrow. They are the area of responsibility of top managers. It is necessary to ensure control, to monitor channels and dams, to regulate the water regime. [This should be done] upon heads’ written acknowledgement – so that they be responsible for the fields that have been assigned to them,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The Belarusian leader stressed that it is necessary to start working immediately, especially in the places that need to be saved first. "I am speaking not about land reclamation or restoration – but about saving some areas. The neglect of fields and the lack of agricultural culture produce the most difficult impression. This is the most terrible thing," the President said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasised that the money invested in land reclamation should be spent efficiently. It is also necessary to control the condition of these territories in the future – ‘so that we, having invested money..., and our children will not turn to this work again’. “Discipline should be ironclad. It is necessary to support [these lands], as they are beyond price,” the Head of State said.
