After reports from the participants of the meeting, Aleksandr Lukashenko drew attention to the need for practical orientation of scientific research in Antarctica, “We need concrete results. We are not Americans or even Russians, who have huge financial resources. They can finance even for 100 years ahead. Maybe we also need to look at this in some areas; I don’t want you to see me as a person who resists changes and innovations. Today we need a result. We spend a lot of money on this, diverting human resources. There must be dynamics. I will tell like this: we must feel your result with our own hands instead of merely praising ourselves.”

The state will continue to support the work of polar explorers, but, according to the President, there shouldn’t be any arrogant faith in success.

“I do not suffer from some gigantomania, but if we have already come there, then it must be clear for the country that we will get something there. It’s preferably to see this during our lifetime. We definitely need to look to the future. I always talk about this. However, it is good when the future is grounded in reality. That is what I want to guide you on. I am mostly saying what I have to tell the Academy of Sciences and our scientists. We can’t progress without scientists, but they are mostly got stuck in a rut.
