Lukashenko demands to find out why it’s not possible to restore the number of pigs to 2012 level
The number of unprofitable organisations engaged in pig breeding is growing in the country, and the number of pigs has not been restored to the level of 2012 – as stated by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, during a meeting on the development of pig breeding
The Head of State drew attention to the fact that against the backdrop of the failed past years, this year, the progress in restoring the livestock and volumes of production (raising) of pigs can be described as insignificant in the country as a whole, “I’m reported that measures are being taken, but the mortality rate of pigs is still growing in all regions, except for Grodno and Minsk regions. The number of piglets has decreased due to the decrease in offspring in the Vitebsk and Minsk regions. Efficiency indicators are declining, the number of unprofitable organisations engaged in pig breeding is growing.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko directly outlined what led to this situation, “The reasons are on the surface and include gross violations of the biological protection of the complexes: insufficient work on the fight against rodents and birds, disinfection, and the provision of overalls.”
The President also noted the problems associated with the record of pigs, false reporting and concealment of livestock losses, “My requirements to restore the number of pigs and pork production to the level of 2012 – set back in 2014 – have not been fulfilled so far.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko urged the participants of the meeting to figure out what is the reason, in what cases it is a violation of technology, the human factor or the lack of sanitary measures. The Head of State underlined, “We heroically organise the harvest campaign, help agriculture with equipment, fertilisers and financial resources, and for this governors, chairs of district executive committees and heads of farms are responsible. Meanwhile, there should be the most severe control from the state side in order to ensure order and biological protection. The same refers to the fertility of soil. Land reclamation, soil fertility, roads and so on are state issues for which we must be responsible. Therefore, the topic of biological protection of facilities, order at farms is a matter of national importance.”
