Lukashenko: countries able to lead movement towards universal security are located in Eurasia
The world needs to find a new key to solving current problems and create working mechanisms to ensure global security. Eurasia is such a key – as noted by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko on October 31 at the 2nd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security.
During the event, the Head of State outlined his vision of global security issues, stressing that, “The total militarisation of the planet is the worst thing that can happen now. Then it will ‘flare up’ very quickly and with enormous consequences for all of us. To prevent this, we already need to think about how to throw off the ballast of military contradictions and expenses, find a new key to solving current problems and create working mechanisms to ensure global security. As I have already said, such a key is in Eurasia with its millennia-long experience of interaction between cultures and civilisations. All the world’s axes intersect here. It is in Eurasia that there are countries that are able to lead the movement towards universal security and that have already put forward a number of initiatives.”
The President explained that he is referring to Russia’s proposals to build an inclusive and fair system of collective security, China’s Global Security Initiative of building a global community of shared future and India’s idea on the human-centric Global Development Compact.
“Geographically located in the heart of the continent, Belarus has also consistently advocated these initiatives and pursued a peacekeeping policy. We cannot be blamed for that,” Aleksandr Lukashenko asserted.
