Lukashenko: Belarus ready to participate in major infrastructure projects in Russia’s Amur Region

Belarusian specialists are ready to take part in the implementation of major infrastructure projects in the Amur Region of the Russian Federation – as stated by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko during today’s meeting with Governor of this Russian region Vasily Orlov

Welcoming the guest, the Head of State noted, “We’re separated by thousands of kilometres. However, our destinies are closely intertwined by our shared history, selfless work, especially on the restoration of the national economy destroyed by the war, the implementation of grandiose industrial, transport and energy projects.”

In this context, the President mentioned the large-scale construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) during the Soviet period. The city of Tynda – the ‘capital of BAM’ – whose half-century anniversary was celebrated on July 8th, is located in the Amur Region. About 60 thousand Belarusians worked on the construction of the highway – one of the largest projects in the history of mankind. Aleksandr Lukashenko stated that large-scale infrastructure projects are also being implemented in the Amur Region nowadays, “These include the Vostochny Cosmodrome, gas chemical giants – Amur Gas Chemical Complex and Amur Gas Processing Plant – natural gas liquefaction complex and many others. This means that the work of Belarusian builders will probably be in demand somewhere.”

The President drew attention to the active development of the regional centre: the city of Blagoveshchensk, “As I was told, the construction site of the Far Eastern Quarter alone envisages the construction of about 334 thousand sq.m of housing in the city. The region’s plans to increase mining enable us to count on the continued supply of our BELAZ heavy-duty dump trucks.”

The Head of State drew attention to the fact that today the Amur Region is an exporter of electricity. At the same time, Aleksandr Lukashenko made such a forecast, “The intensive development of electric transport in neighbouring China will soon spread across the Amur River and will require a more dynamic development of a special electric charging infrastructure, the components of which we have been producing and successfully operating for more than five years. If you are interested in this issue, we will be happy to show you all this.”

“As for the agro-industrial complex, Belarusian agricultural scientists are keen to take part in projects to modernise the material, technical and technological base of crop production, animal husbandry, crop breeding, as well as the processing industry. Belarus boasts serious competencies in this regard,” the President underlined.

The Belarusian leader is convinced that the natural potential of the region makes it possible to significantly diversify the range of agricultural products grown, “We are ready to support you in this area. Moreover, agricultural machinery, including tractor equipment, grain and forage harvesters, attachments to them, equipment for livestock and dairy complexes, will also help.”

Belarus is also able to increase its exports of all demanded food products, including juices and baby food, as well as other necessary goods to the Amur Region. At the same time, it is possible to set up a Belarusian trading house in the region to establish and organise direct supplies of our food products to the region for the needs of social institutions, as well as retail trade. Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that this is far from a complete list of areas in which we have already created a certain reserve.

“We are open for further co-operation on a wide range of goods and services. I think that meetings on Belarusian land with responsible persons, members of the Government, your wishes will certainly be perceived as a signal for action, and we are ready to provide all possible assistance and support to this geographically distant land. But this is only a geographically remote region, but absolutely not alien to us and a very beautiful land. Thank you for taking the time to visit Belarus, I hope it will be a very useful trip,” the President of Belarus underlined.
