Lukashenko: Belarus holding election for its people, so their interests are to be prioritised
Head of State Aleksandr Lukashenko has convened a meeting on the holding of the 2025 election today, gathering the heads of the President Administration, the Government, the Security Council, the Council of the Republic, the Foreign Ministry, the State Security Committee, the Central Election Commission, the chairmen of the regional executive committees and the Minsk City Executive Committee
Opening the meeting, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that it was a traditional event held during the start of the pre-election campaign. “Our task is to hold the latter at a high level (from the organisational point of view, first of all), without any weak spots. At the same time, it is necessary to keep in mind that we are holding the election campaign for our people, so their interests should be put at the forefront – not in the way someone may want abroad,” he said.
According to the President, proper conditions should be created for candidates and election commissions, and polling stations need to be well prepared. The Head of State asked to pay special attention to ballot boxes, “If necessary, let's have some standard ones or set a standard for our regions and make beautiful, normal [boxes]. Portable ones are also needed, and they should look normal as well.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko also asked those present not to forget that, since Soviet times, elections have been a holiday in Belarus. The creation of festive atmosphere at polling stations is primarily the responsibility of local authorities.
