Lukashenko arrived at Astana Palace of Independence for SCO summit

President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has arrived at the Palace of Independence in Astana, where a meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State is taking place today

The event is attended by the heads of state and government of Belarus, Kazakhstan, India, Iran, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, Azerbaijan, Qatar, the UAE, Turkiye, Turkmenistan, as well as the SCO Secretary General and the Executive Director of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure. The summit is also attended by the UN Secretary General and the heads of international organisations such as the CIS, the ECO, the CICA, the CSTO, the EEC and the IOFS.

The SCO summit will be held for the first time in the format of the SCO Council of Heads of States meeting and the SCO Plus meeting. During the meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State, the Astana Declaration, 20 decisions, 3 statements by heads of state – including the initiatives On World Unity for Just Peace, Harmony and Development and On Improving the SCO – will be adopted. The decision to complete the procedure for the admission of the Republic of Belarus to the SCO and grant it the status of a SCO member state will be historic.
