Lukashenko: army needs to be shaken up and brought into perfect condition

The Belarusian military and law enforcement agencies as a whole will be seriously tested across all directions – as noted by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko at today’s meeting during his working trip to the Brest Region

The Head of State recalled that earlier the special purpose police detachments (OMON), Almaz, Alfa special forces and others, our internal troops were given a direct task to register all those who served previously in these formations and train them in new forms and methods of warfare.

“We will inspect all units in the near future. Why do I insist on this? Because it cost us a lot to train such special forces. That’s big money,” the Belarusian leader said.

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, at one time the task of having his own brigade was set to Head of the Belarusian Society of Hunters and Fishermen Igor Shunevich.

“We need to see how it is being created, and what has been established. We have a lot of hunters. They should have their own unit with their own, as they said, weapons. Where will we have better snipers than they? Therefore, we must use this option, making everything in a wise manner, rather than hoping as it was in Soviet times: money will be earmarked, a military town will be built, a lot of people will be recruited, we will teach them, as we usually do in the army, and then they will learn how to fight. In this way we can only collapse our economy, bringing our population to poverty. We cannot invest a lot of money in such a training system,” the Head of State underlined.

The President also reminded of the task to reform education and training in the army itself ‘so that there is no excessively intensive training but the guys are physically prepared’, “Physical training, as well as fire and tactical training, should come to the forefront, i.e., the army needs to be shaken up and brought into perfect condition.”

The Head of State noted that this issue will be tackled again as soon as the field works are over and the winter period begins, “The inspection will be severe in all directions. It will cover our military as a whole, not only the army, but also the Interior Ministry and the State Security Committee. Tasks have been assigned to everyone. Everyone knows everything, you just have to do it.”
