Lufthansa strike disrupted air travel in Germany
Ground staff of German’s Lufthansa went on strike at major airports on February 7th, trying to influence the pay dispute, Reuters reports
Some 100 thousand passengers will be affected by the industrial action, which started at 4 am (6am Minsk time) and is due to run until 7:10 am on February 8th, the carrier has said.
“The Verdi union has targeted the airports of Frankfurt and Munich, where Lufthansa says only 10-20 percent of flights will operate, as well as Berlin, Hamburg and Düsseldorf,” the publication reads.
Verdi is seeking a 12.5 percent pay raise for around 25,000 workers, or at least an extra €500 per month for a year, as well as a one-time inflation compensation bonus of €3,000.
Over the past few weeks, Germany has experienced a series of nationwide strikes impacting air travel, railways, and public transportation, inflicting pain on its economy.
