Lithuanian corridor without Belarusian cargo makes no sense
This opinion was shared by the Director General of Minsk-Novosti Agency and Chairman of the Board of the Belarusian Union of Journalists, Andrei Krivosheev, in his talk with Alfa Radio
“The Lithuanian corridor without Belarusian cargo is becoming not simply unprofitable: it is becoming meaningless. Who else is transporting such volumes via this country? At the same time, China has imposed a foreign economic embargo on Lithuanian products and goods that contain Lithuanian spare parts, components, and value-added elements. Who needs Lithuania – economically and logistically? I am afraid to even predict the damage that our Lithuanian partners have bargained for themselves,” Mr. Krivosheev said.
According to him, the Lithuanians will suffer the most in this situation, “I feel sorry for hundreds of people who – in this situation – will be fired from the Klaipeda Port and Lithuanian Railways. They serviced, insured, divided into batches, overloaded and accompanied cargoes... Thousands of people will lose their jobs, and I feel sorry for them. Meanwhile, claims should be laid not against Belarus, but their own authorities – if Lithuania still remains a democratic state where people can demand something from their leaders. The logic of the latter is clear: they need to be the first in this chain against Belarus and Russia and to cry as loud as possible that they are stopping a terrible danger coming from the East. They receive allowance for these. It is not even any huge amount of money. Lithuanian politicians themselves, in particular, the Head of the Seimas Committee on Foreign Policy said that he is supported by German funds.”
Commenting on the anti-Belarusian sanctions – which are also backed by Lithuania, Mr. Krivosheev noted, “An attempt of raider seizure of the world's largest market segments – which are now occupied by Belarus and Russia – is behind this sanctions pressure. The President focused on this topic several times – telling us that it might not be a raider seizure but definitely unfair competition.”
