Lavrov: Belarus' Independence Day is our common holiday
Belarus’ Independence Day is a common holiday for both countries – as stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking at a reception at the Embassy of Belarus in Russia on the occasion of the Belarusian state holiday
Mr. Lavrov joined the congratulations addressed to Belarus these days in connection with upcoming Independence Day. “This is our common holiday,” he said. “This holiday is inextricably linked with the milestones of the Great Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, and we will always remember the feat of our fathers, grandfathers, great-grandfathers, ever striving to pass on this memory to our children – so that threats like the one that the Soviet Union experienced will never be revived on our land.”
The Russian Foreign Minister stressed that, during WWII, Belarusian and Russian people – like the rest of the Soviet nations – withstood the threat of complete destruction.
“I would like to congratulate all our Belarusian friends and all Russians on this wonderful holiday, to wish you good health and success to our Belarusian colleagues in all their endeavours. After all, their success is our success. Within the framework of the Union State, we have already developed so many joint projects and joint programmes, that our fate is inseparable," Mr. Lavrov concluded.
