Krivosheev: development is impossible without security
If security is not ensured in Belarus, the country will not be able to develop, believes the General Director of Minsk-Novosti Agency and Chairman of the Belarusian Union of Journalists, Andrei Krivosheev
Speaking with Alfa Radio about the three question of the President voiced during his Address, Mr. Krivosheev noted, “Actually, these questions have already been raised – addressing politically active citizens and managers of all levels. However, they have not been discussed on such a wide scale, with attraction of all Belarusians. Shortly speaking, these questions have always existed, and they are fundamental from the point of view of a sovereign state. Without [ensuring] security, it is hardly possible to imagine any sphere of our life – including the economy, social guarantees, or personal professional growth. No development is possible without security. It is very important to invest in the country's defence capacity. Moreover, the situation on the external borders, as diplomats say, is mobile. Simply speaking, it is producing many questions and concerns. It is no coincidence that the President noted that there is a question of war now.”
Mr. Krivosheev noted that the issue of sovereignty is guided by the issue of security, “Sovereignty means that we make key decisions about the country’s present and future on our own land," he explained.
As for the President’s third question, the expert stressed, “This is a question of how creative, inventive and active we are regarding the country’s development, including in terms of investing in security and sovereignty. By the way, Belarusians have been consistently answering these questions over the last quarter of a century. There were many situations when we could have sacrificed both security and sovereignty, where relied more on the state paternalism rather than our own forces. At the same time, Belarusians have always answered the questions in the affirmative.”
