Kremlin spokesperson: Russia views nuclear weapons as extreme, forced measure

Russia considers the use of nuclear weapons only as a last resort, Russian President spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, TASS reports

“Russia has always viewed nuclear weapons as a deterrent, the use of which is an extreme, forced measure,” the Kremlin spokesperson stressed.

He added that the Russian Federation has always taken a responsible position and made the necessary efforts to reduce the nuclear threat and prevent the aggravation of interstate relations.

“Nuclear deterrence is aimed at ensuring that potential adversaries understand the inevitability of retaliation in case of aggression against the Russian Federation or its allies,” Mr. Peskov said.
