Kochanova: the decision to establish Presidential office 30 years ago absolutely correct

The decision to establish the Presidential office in Belarus 30 years ago was wise, said Chairperson of the Council of the Republic, Natalya Kochanova, to the STV TV channel

The entire history of our sovereign and independent country showed that was an absolutely correct, well thought-out decision that brought results, Ms. Kochanova believes. “We know the country we used to live in and the country we live in now. We see the difference,” she said.

The Speaker had words of thanks for TV channels that show the state Belarus used to be in three decades ago and the changes that have taken place since, “This is a completely different country that uses different approaches to the needs of its people. As the President says, people are the cornerstone of our policies. Fairness to our people is key. We have a great country that cares about its citizenry.”

Ms. Kochanova reiterated that Belarus has well thought-out, socially oriented policies, “Social guarantees our citizens have are a proof of that.”

The objective to preserve the national industry has been achieved, she added. “We preserved and expanded it. The One District – One Project initiative gets us results, of course. We kept the factories we used to have, and they are operating now, operating efficiently. They are making good products that are competitive,” the Head of the Upper House of Parliament emphasised.

She went on to state that new companies are being established all the time.

“We became a space-travelling nation, we now have the powerful Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation (BNBC), completely new technologies are being applied to make fertilisers for domestic and export use,” explained Ms. Kochanova.

According to her, farming, healthcare, and education are Belarus' signature industries today.
