Kochanova: Presidential election date appointment meets all legal norms

Today, at the second session of the House of Representatives, MPs set the date for the next election of the President of the Republic of Belarus: January 26th, 2025. Natalya Kochanova, the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly, commented on the news, saying the chosen date was the best and the most convenient.

“An election, especially a Presidential election, is always an important event for any country,” said the Speaker of the Council of the Republic. “We all know very well that during the election we, in essence, decide the future of our country and our people, so it’s always exciting to run political campaigns on that scale. Today, the House of Representatives resolved to set the election date for January 26th, 2025. All legal norms and rules found in the Constitution and the Electoral Code have been met,” she added.

According to Ms. Kochanova, it is important that the Presidential election rounds out the electoral campaign cycle, setting the stage for the next five years.

“At the start of 2025, we are going to decide the fate of our country for the next five years. Objectives and targets will be set for the future. That’s why this political campaign rounds up the formation of our political bodies. This year, we had a Single Voting Day, electing representatives at all levels and the Belarusian People’s Congress which has a constitutional status. That’s why the MPs were absolutely in the right when they proposed and appointed this election date,” she said.
In these trying times, when we see warmongering hysterics being ramped up at our borders, fences being built, endless NATO exercises being held, when new conflicts appear all over the globe again and again, it’s our duty to preserve peace and stability in our country.
