KGB: Ukraine’s special services recruited their own citizens for terrorist attacks in other countries
This was stated by Deputy Chief of the Investigation Office of the State Security Committee (KGB) of Belarus Konstantin Bychek, who also revealed the details of a large-scale joint operation to detain a Ukrainian citizen who attempted to commit an act of terrorism at a Belarusian military facility: the Machulishchi airfield
“The State Security Committee, in co-operation with the Interior Ministry, the State Border Committee and other law enforcement agencies, carried out a large-scale joint operation, as a result of which a citizen of Ukraine, Shvets Nikolai Vladimirovich, 1993, was detained at one of the safe houses, who attempted to commit an act of terrorism at a Belarusian military facility – the Machulishchi airfield in the Minsk Region – on February 26th, 2023,” Konstantin Bychek said.
He also added that as a result of the complex of counterintelligence measures carried out by the KGB, the direct involvement of the operational staff and leadership of the Security Service of Ukraine in the organisation of the attempted terrorist attack was established.
“The system of recruitment by Ukrainian special services of their own citizens to commit acts of terrorism on the territory of other states has been revealed, cover organisations used for their training have been established, the tactics of using explosive devices, the mechanisms of communication and management of agents have been studied, and the channels for withdrawing agents have been disclosed and liquidated,” he continued. “Primary investigative actions enable us to conclude that agents of the special services of the Republic of Poland from among the so-called fugitive Belarusians, adherents of the violent overthrow of the constitutional order, active participants in the events of August 2020, were involved in the preparation of the act of terrorism.”
It is important to note that the operation to search for and detain criminals took place under the full control of the Head of State. He immediately gave instructions to close the border and take other comprehensive measures in order to identify and bring to justice all those involved in terrorist activities.
“As a result, the network of agents from among the citizens of the Republic of Belarus, who took part in ensuring the activities of the terrorist agent, his legalisation in the Republic of Belarus and an unsuccessful evacuation attempt, was completely disclosed and liquidated. As follows from the materials of the case, these citizens were involved in criminal activities by Belarusian extremist political émigré centres located abroad and were actually used by them on the instructions of the Polish and Ukrainian special services as expendable material,” Konstantin Bychek said.
The Investigation Office of the KGB initiated a criminal case on the fact of an attempt to commit an act of terrorism. Over twenty people were detained, including the direct executor – an employee of the Ukrainian special services. Currently, the State Security Committee, in liaison with other interested state bodies, is implementing a large-scale set of measures aimed at testing people from a destructive environment for their involvement in a crime.
The suspected Shvets is actively co-operating with the investigation, giving confessions.
