KGB of Belarus stopped attempts to commit terrorist attacks on the eve of May 9th
As stated by KGB Chief Ivan Tertel, the events were tied to May 9th, BelTA reports
“That was an attempt to stir up the situation. The Head of State is aware of this. We have detained a certain number of people who were preparing to commit terrorist attacks, and we know that secretive agencies are involved. I do not want to fully open all the information today,” Mr. Tertel said on May 9th, adding that everything is likely to be announced on May 10th.
"Those were attempts to organise terrorist attacks on our territory, and we believe they were tied to Victory Day," the KGB Chief stressed.
Mr. Tertel noted the importance of citizens' vigilance, saying that the work of any special service would not be so effective without it. "The announced video will show when our youth, our students are being got involved in the commitment of terrorist attacks. Sometimes people fail to realise that they are acting somewhere on the verge of the law. In fact, they have almost entered hell," he said.
"The situation in the world is very, very restless right now, and we are waiting for the escalation of the situation around our country. We are working on behalf of the President to ensure that nothing happens that could disturb the peace of our citizens. Everything necessary is being done for this," the KGB Chief added.
This work is being carried out jointly with the Interior Ministry and the State Border Committee. Work on the state border has been strengthened, and this is a proactive measure.
