Israeli Defence Minister said his country defeated Hamas and Hezbollah
Israel’s new Defence Minister Israel Katz announced that the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) soldiers managed to defeat the Palestinian Hamas movement and the Shiite Lebanese Hezbollah movement, TASS reports
“The IDF achievements in the operation against Hamas, although they came at a high price, are extremely powerful. Hamas has been defeated from an organisational point of view, although there are still scattered detachments there [in the Gaza Strip] <...>. Our task is to ensure that they [Hamas] failed to regain power in the Gaza Strip,” Mr. Katz, who previously headed the Israeli Foreign Ministry, said at a ceremony making the handover to Israel’s new Foreign Minister, Gideon Saar.
The speech was broadcast by the Israeli Foreign Ministry’s press service.
“As for the northern border [of Israel with Lebanon], Israeli strikes will be studied in military schools. We have defeated Hezbollah, and eliminating [the organisation’s leader Hassan] Nasrallah was the crowning achievement of this defeat. Now it is our job to continue to put pressure in order to bring about the fruits of that victory, ensuring a change in the security situation in Lebanon,” the Israeli official said.
