Indigenous senator blasts Charles III during visit to Canberra

Senator from the indigenous population accused King Charles III of genocide on Monday, October 21st, in the Australia’s Parliament House, moments after His Majesty finished his speech expressing his ‘respects to the traditional owners of the lands’, Reuters reports

On Monday, Charles III made his 16th official visit to Australia, and his first major foreign trip after his cancer diagnosis. Just as he was finishing his speech, independent senator Lidia Thorpe representing the indigenous Australian population yelled that she did not accept Charles' sovereignty over Australia.

"You committed genocide against our people," she said. "Give us our land back. Give us what you stole from us – our bones, our skulls, our babies, our people. You destroyed our land. Give us a treaty. We want treaty."

According to Thorpe, all those issues can only be solved via a national treaty between the government and the indigenous peoples.
