The Times of India newspaper, citing a source in the Defence Ministry, reports that the Indian constellation of military space satellites will increase by 100 devices in the next 7-8 years. India will establish a Space Command to carry out operations in near and deep space.

According to the publication’s source, the Indian Air Force has sent a draft of a new doctrine to the government for approval. It envisages active steps aiming to efficiently use outer space for both offensive and defensive purposes, as well as transforming the Indian Air Force into Indian Air and Space Force.

The Times of India’s interlocutor expressed hope that the new doctrine will receive approval from the Cabinet of Ministers in the near future, adding that the Air Force is currently actively liaising with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), other departments and private companies in creating the latest technologies in the field of space communications, Earth observation, space satellite control, etc. The training of Air Force pilots includes a programme to prepare for actions to repel threats from space.
