India plans to send crewed spacecraft into space in 2025
Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Sreedhara Panicker Somanath announced that India intends to send into orbit its first national spacecraft with a crew on board, as planned, by the end of 2025, TASS reports
Sreedhara Panicker Somanath noted that Gaganyaan, India's first manned spaceflight programme, is expected to commence by the end of 2025. He also said that the country would have a space station by the end of 2035. ISRO is already working on the Chandrayaan-4 unmanned station to get samples from the Moon.
In August 2018, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially announced that his country would send the first national space crew into orbit by August 2022, when India would be celebrating 75 years of liberation from British colonial rule. However, the mission was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
