IAEA official talks about support for Belarus

IAEA supports Belarus in various areas, implementing joint projects with the Energy Ministry, the BelNPP, the Healthcare Ministry, the Emergencies Ministry, and the National Meteorology Centre, said Azat Nurken, Programme Management Officer at the IAEA Department of Technical Co-operation, after his work visit to the BelNPP, BelTA reports

“With the IAEA’s support, we offer courses to government employees: training sessions and workshops, both in Minsk and other regions,” Mr. Nurken noted.

Two technical co-operation projects are being prepared for 2026-2027. “They are in development currently. We are going to have some meeting to discuss process plans for them together with our Belarusian partners and the Agency representatives,” clarified the expert.

The IAEA official called nuclear medicine one of the most prominent areas for technical co-operation, especially when it comes to cancer treatment. “There’s a support potential for Belarus here, including training for health workers,” he added.

On his trip to the BelNPP, Mr. Nurken visited a number of key facilities, including the turbine hall and the training centre, and participated in an operational meeting on the status of technical co-operation projects. Drawing a line under his visit, Mr. Nurken thanked the Belarusian side for the opportunity to visit the BelNPP in person. “It’s a perfectly modern facility with competent and highly skilled staff,” concluded the expert.
