German political expert explained why Scholz opposes sending troops to Ukraine
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, unlike French President Emmanuel Macron, is aware of the consequences of sending Western troops to Ukraine – as stated by Gregor Spitzen, a political expert and independent German journalist, in his talk with the Soloviev Live TV channel
French President Emmanuel Macron did not rule out the possibility of sending troops from Western countries to Ukraine. Mr. Scholz previously also spoke out against that. The German Chancellor also opposed the supply of Taurus missiles to Kiev.
“Olaf Scholz can be asked a lot of questions about Russia's policy, and still he is a kind of voice of reason in the madhouse that the European Union has become. He understands that sending NATO troops to Ukraine is the same crossing of the red line as the transfer of long-range weapons, German Taurus missiles," Mr. Spitzen explained.
According to the expert, such a step would directly involve Germany and Europe in the conflict, and – due to this – there may be a risk of a nuclear war or at least a serious backlash from Russia.
“Olaf Scholz understands that, but Mr. Macron has recently lost touch with reality somewhat, which affects both domestic and foreign policy. We see the situation with farmers in France, but the French leader does not attach importance to this: Mr. Macron believes he is immortal since he coped with the ‘yellow vests’. This is still not the case, it would be better for him to focus on existing problems inside France than to add new ones to the country. In turn, Mr. Scholz – though being one of the worst chancellors in the history of Germany – at least understands more,” Mr. Spitzen added.
