Francesca La Camera: reducing industrial emissions is the number one agenda for all countries of the world
The decarbonisation of the energy system powered by renewable energy sources, the reform of electricity networks, the reduction of industrial emissions are the number one agenda for all countries of the world – as stated by Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Francesca La Camera at the plenary session of the Astana International Forum
“The global energy transformation of all oil-producing countries is critical to achieving climate change goals. Urgent action is needed over the next five years to get the global energy transition back on track. To achieve the goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C, it is necessary to produce 1,000 gigawatts of renewable electricity per year,” Francesca La Camera said.
The speaker recalled the dangers of carbon emissions, “Covering the Earth, greenhouse gas emissions trap the Sun’s heat. This leads to global warming and climate change. The planet is currently warming up faster than at any time in human history. As a result, fires, droughts and other natural disasters break out in different parts of the world.”
In turn, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei noted that efforts should be made to develop the so-called green barrel, which means reducing emissions from oil production by all market participants.
“Our enemy is not carbon, our enemy is the emissions that accompany carbon mining,” the UAE Minister said.
