France’s left-wing party re-launched impeachment procedure against Macron
France’s hard-left La France Insoumise (France Unbowed) party has resubmitted a request to launch an impeachment procedure against French President Emmanuel Macron, approved by the National Assembly (the lower house of parliament), TASS reports citing AFP
It is reported that MPs expect to present a relevant resolution during their so-called parliamentary niche (the day when one faction presents its initiatives) on November 28th.
It is noted that Chairman of the Law Commission Florent Boudié should now consider the initiative. If he refuses, he will violate the strict constitutional right to choose niche texts.
A similar proposal was put forward by representatives of this party in early autumn, and on September 17th, it was also given the green light by the lower house, where out of 22 members, 12 belong to parties from the left-wing coalition New Popular Front. The initiative implied the launch of the procedure to remove the president from power, in accordance with Article 68 of the country’s Constitution. This norm envisages such a scenario in case the head of state fails to fulfil his duties. This also applies to the refusal to approve laws adopted by parliament.
