FM: Belarus ready to resume flights with Israel from tomorrow
We have heard and take seriously Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s call for foreign airlines to resume flights to Israeli airports disrupted by the escalating Israeli-Palestinian conflict. We are fully ready to meet halfway and resume air traffic with Israel even from tomorrow, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Anatoly Glaz told reporters on the sidelines of a joint session of the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Defence Ministers and the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) member states
“Our embassy in Tel Aviv will be tasked to officially confirm to the Israeli Foreign Ministry our readiness to respond to this call of Isaac Herzog. We’re convinced that this is an important and necessary step that will be positively received by our people. After all, Belarus and Israel have had good relations for many years. They are also based on the close intertwining of human destinies and cultures in historical retrospect. Today, when the international system is plunged into conditions of severe confrontation and disunity, maintaining and developing contacts between people, as well as humanitarian and business ties are of particular importance. Regular flights, of course, play an important role in this.”
The Press Secretary of the Foreign Ministry drew attention to the fact that just a few weeks ago, with the permission of the Israeli side, a special Belavia flight was carried out from Israel, “This enabled us to fulfil the Head of State’s order to evacuate Belarusian citizens and members of their families from the conflict zone to Belarus. You all saw how happy the passengers on this board were. In difficult times of the pandemic and lockdowns, Belavia flights, in turn, were actively used by Israeli citizens, whom we helped get home.”
