Belarus is ready to make a significant contribution to maintaining international food security, including in the countries participating in the BRICS Summit – as stated by Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik during the BRICS-Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus dialogues in Johannesburg

“Belarus is one of the world leaders in production of potash fertilisers. Until 2022, its share in the global potassium trade made 20 percent, and dropped to 9 percent in 2022 due to illegal restrictions imposed by some Western countries on transportation. As a result, a shortage of fertilisers on the world markets emerged, and their prices grew,” Mr. Aleinik said.
The Foreign Minister added, “Belarus' share in the African potash fertiliser market fell from 42 percent to 3 percent in 2022, and that led to a 16 percent drop in the grain harvest in Africa. In an effort to ensure our common interests and trying to prevent other states from suffering in favour of Western ambitions, we are looking for new logistics chains to restore fertiliser supplies. However, this requires non-standard solutions and new tools. We are ready to search for them together with you, our dear partners.”
