Finland may refuse to grant asylum to Ukrainians under new policy
As part of its new policy, the Finnish Immigration Service may refuse to grant asylum to Ukrainians from areas of Ukraine not affected by the conflict, TASS reports
In an interview with the STT agency, Olli Koskipirtti, from the Finnish Migration Agency, stated, “The new policy towards Ukraine is based on the fact that there are areas in the country where there is no war, and people can return there."
Almost all Ukrainians staying in Finland arrive in the country under the temporary protection programme of the European Union, which was first applied in March 2022. According to the Finnish Immigration Service, over the past 12 months, thirteen citizens of Ukraine have applied for asylum under this programme.
