Opinion: West uses any ground to transfer its troops closer to Belarus

In early August, the media reported that Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak ordered to send additional troops to the border with Belarus, and there are currently about 2 thousand Polish servicemen there. An expert from the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies, Aleksei Avdonin, commented on the situation in his talk with Alfa Radio

According to Mr. Avdonin, Poland and other countries use any reason to simply transfer troops to Belarus’ border.

“Any military expert and a person who has experience of service in the armed forces will perfectly explain that the transfer of such a large number of people, military forces together with weapons and equipment, requires a long preparatory work. It is actually impossible to redeploy 2 thousand people simultaneously. Therefore, we can say that the infrastructure has already been created there – including barracks, warehouses, and the ability to ensure the safety of weapons and military equipment. Poland is now implementing NATO long-standing plans. Please note that this transfer began after the NATO Summit, so they [Poles] are not doing anything for nothing, and this is not a spontaneous decision. This decision was planned in advance, and the main task [of NATO] is the maximum militarisation of our border area. Why are they doing this? It is clear that they have military-political plans. We have discussed more than once that these plans concern, primarily, certain tasks dealing with the creation of a powerful buffer zone of western Ukraine and western Belarus. At some stage, they consider entering the territory of the Kaliningrad Region, capturing and expanding the Suwalki corridor. These are their plans. Clearly, these are just plans, but the most important aspect for NATO is that they cannot move away from them. These intentions were spelled out back in 2008, as soon as the West realised that there would soon be a confrontation between Russia and Western countries. From that moment on, they began to prepare this step. However, it is worth explaining that these are exclusively plans, and we – Belarus and Russia – are doing everything to prevent them from being realised on our territory,” Mr. Avdonin stressed.
