Opinion: US and collective West’s goal is to inflict strategic defeat on Russia
The European Commission announced an increase in the military budgets of EU countries by 20 percent starting from 2022. Military analyst Igor Chibisov muses about the goal the EU pursues in this regard: to provide military-technical support to Ukraine or to ensure its own defence security.
“The goal of the United States and the collective West is to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia: not its largest, but its toughest opponent in the international arena. In this scenario, the key elements were NATO and EU member states while Ukraine should have acted as the weapon and instrument of the main attack. The growth of the EU military budgets is directly related to the military conflict in Ukraine and the Middle East. Providing assistance to Kiev, hiding behind the supposedly increased threat and aggression from Russia, all these countries have revised their military budgets upward. For the first time in NATO history, all its members have pledged to raise their defence spending to a level above 2 percent of GDP. This is not a target, but a minimum indicator for the thirty-one NATO states. Thus, military spending by the countries of Central and Western Europe has returned to the level of the Cold War. The leadership of the EU countries – under the dictates of the US – will continue to provide, to the extent possible, financial and military assistance to Ukraine, as long as it has the mobilisation resource, i.e., to wage war ‘until the last Ukrainian’.”
The United States and the collective West cannot lose their own identity in the world, their hegemony. Having designated Russia and Belarus as their opponents, who allegedly want to attack the EU, they are pursuing a policy of active militarisation. Moreover, Western states now need to replenish the military equipment and weapons transferred to Kiev, replacing them with new ones, which are very expensive.
