Expert: radiation level remains normal in Belarus
The radiation-related situation on the territory of Belarus remained normal throughout 2024, and is such now as well – as noted by Aleksandr Trusov, the Deputy Head of the Republican Center for Hydrometeorology, Radioactive Contamination Control and Environmental Monitoring (Belhydromet), sb.by reports
In particular, Mr. Trusov commented on the situation in the territories exposed to radioactive contamination as a result of the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, “The average dose rate of gamma radiation at the Bragin observation point continues to decrease, and the dose rate at the Slavgorod observation point does not exceed the values natural for the Belarusian territory.”
Speaking about radiation monitoring of surface waters, the expert informed that 250+ measurements were carried out at seventeen points last year. “No excess of total beta activity over the control levels was detected at all surface water measuring points, with the exception of the Nizhnyaya Braginka River. However, it should be noted that this river is passing through the flood control tunnels of the Chernobyl exclusion zone,” he said.
Mr. Trusov added that the situation around the Belarusian nuclear power plant is also safe. Here, ten stationary observation points and ten automated measuring points operate. Based on the results of measurements carried out in 2024 around the territory of the Belarusian NPP, no excess values were detected.
“We can confidently assert that the radiation levels in the territory of the Republic of Belarus remain normal,” the Belhydromet representative stated.
