Expert: Poland’s ruling party and opposition have no big difference

Regardless of what kind of government will be in Poland after the parliamentary elections, it will not affect anything globally, because there is actually no big difference between the ruling Law and Justice party and the opposition bloc – as stated by the Director General of the National Library, Vadim Gigin, in his talk with Alfa Radio

Mr. Gigin began with stating that manipulativeness is the main feature of the Western model of democracy, and the events in Poland are nothing but manipulation of public consciousness. “A discussion, or rather, a personal quarrel has begun between the ruling elite of the Law and Justice party and Donald Tusk. The latter was mostly lambasted on the state TV. What is actually behind this? What is the fundamental difference between Kaczynski, his company and Tusk? Look at the definition of the Civic Platform: it is liberal-conservative. Here is already a contradiction! Is this party liberal or conservative? Well, let’s imagine that there will be a coalition of Civic Platform, Third Way, Left. They support abortion, while the Law and Justice party is against it; they stand for the legalisation of same-sex marriage, while Law and Justice seems to be not much against it either. In reality, under pressure from Brussels and Washington, the Polish Government has made significant concessions since 2021 with regard to the judicial reform and the humanitarian agenda. The PiS party has actually begun to adopt this liberal platform. A question arises then: what is the difference between them all? Is the difference only rooted in the demand of the Left to close the Institute of National Memory? What about the war? Should it be continued? Will they remove the fence? Apparently, not. How will they establish relations with their neighbours? What about the Pole’s Card? In fact, they meet at this point. We are told that this is a national consensus. Is it really so? It is rather a conscious policy to press out other political parties, forces that offer alternatives, new ways of Poland's development,” he explained.

Commenting on the results of the parliamentary elections, the expert said that a large share of people voted for Civil Platform, Third Way and Left not because their agenda was close to them, but because they had enough of politics. “Figures are available. On the eve of the elections, at least 45 percent of Polish voters were undecided about their choice. They voted for the opposition not because it was so wonderful: they demonstrated a protest by their voting. That was a protest against the line followed by the ruling circles of Poland. The campaign showed that the crisis in Poland has not ended, but it will continue. The elections designed to resolve contradictions have just aggravated them. We shall soon see a struggle accompanying the formation of the government. This is an attempt to distract society with this political spectacle from real problems, from a really serious conversation about the future of Poland and its role in the world. There is an attempt to replace this with an ersatz policy,” Mr. Gigin stated.
