Expert on whether escalation goes down in the world
Donald Trump won the US elections, and many experts – mostly in Ukraine – have talked about this being a serious step towards peace processes. Meanwhile, in his talk with Alfa Radio, an expert of the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies, Aleksei Avdonin, noted: there will be no peace as long as corporations have the opportunity to make money on war.
“The topic of peace is not the model that we are used to, when leaders meet, negotiate, come to an agreement and sign a relevant document. We are well aware that this is no longer the case. In our modern times, quasi-wars, quasi-competition result in the destruction of the concept of peace, since wars are becoming a good opportunity to make money,” the expert said. “Please note how American and European military-industrial complex are promoting the topic of conflict escalation around the globe. [Their attitude is as follows]: if the conflict on the territory of Ukraine cannot be further developed because, roughly speaking, there is no one left to pay for weapons and the country has already taken everything it could, then the hostilities may be frozen there but launched in the Middle East, in the Asia-Pacific region. Look at how harsh the rhetoric of the new White House administration – that is now forming around Trump – has become. They openly declare that an attack on China as a direct competitor to the United States is their main focus now. This is actually the official statement of Trump’s team!”
“This suggests that war is a new form or a certain model of competition. In turn, when speaking about peace and peace negotiations, Belarus always adheres to the classical model, with no confrontation, use of weapons, or elements of destruction of the population and infrastructure. We understand that much more can be achieved in peace conditions, while war is solely a tool for achieving goals by large corporations and banks,” Mr. Avdonin added.
Actually, it is hardly possible to talk about peace since more than 50 UN members, including the United States, Germany and Japan – opposed Russia's resolution on combating the glorification of Nazism.
“In fact, these are the countries that fought against the Soviet Union during the Great Patriotic War,” the expert noted. “For example, it was the United States that financed Hitler's rise to power, the rebirth of Germany. Therefore, it is now once again trying to use the technology of nationalism and fascism in order to rock Europe, Japan, South Korea and the Philippines, and to use them as a striking force against Russia and China. It is necessary to understand that Nazism and fascism penetrate only the communities that experience the strongest socio-economic upheavals: i.e. unemployment, inflation, devaluation, and poverty. This is exactly what we see in Europe. The European economy is being destroyed, because Europe has always been a source of profit for American-British corporations. It also acted as a competitor, which they are now destroying (German corporations are an example in this regard). They throw people out on the street, but what should these people do? Naturally, they have a shattered consciousness and wrong focuses: everything used to be fine for them not so long ago, but it is now really bad. These people have loans, children, and elderly parents. They start searching for some kind of truth, and propaganda yields results: nationalism and fascism enter these excited masses.”
